The South Dakota Department of Education regularly reviews academic content standards that “serve as expectations for what students should know and be able to do by the end of each grade.” The Department says this “is an ongoing and critical component to ensure South Dakota students in every classroom receive current and relevant learning experiences. The goal is that all students will graduate college, career, and life ready.”
The current subjects under review include Social Studies and Career Technical Education.
The review process involves a series of four public hearings hosted by the South Dakota Board of Education Standards and held over a period of at least six months.
The Board of Education Standards' public hearing schedule is:
· Sept. 19, 2022, 9 a.m. (Central) Dakota Event Center, Aberdeen
· Nov. 21, 2022, 9 a.m. (Central) (location TBD), Sioux Falls
· 2023 dates and locations TBD
· Details for each board meeting are posted on the state's Boards and Commissions website
